The Governor's correspondence files deal with the official correspondence of Governor George Johnstone, the first governor of British West Fla. The Governor's correspondence files depict the duties of the provincial Governor and the activities of the province of British West Fla. The records discuss the policies of the Crown and the province toward the Indian nations, especially the Chickasaw and Choctaw and the Congress held between British officials and these two Indian tribes, the French, and the purchase of land from them, land grants, complaints about the behavior of certain provincial officials, especially Major Robert Farmar, military commandant at Mobile, the erection of a new post at Point Iberville, the protection of British ports, and other correspondence which depicts the functions of Great Britain's colony in West Fla.
